Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom cut off gas supplies to neighbouring Ukraine over a pricing dispute. Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey were among the first other countries affected by the cut in supplies, which has since widened to Germany and Italy. Joanna Partridge reports for Reuters

Factory orders dropped more than predicted in November and pending home sales hit a seven-year low. Oil touched $50 for the first time this year before retreating. Gas row begins to bite in Europe

The Russia-Ukraine gas dispute has cut supplies of Russian gas to a swathe of European countries, many in the depths of a cold winter snap. The conflict escalated dramatically on Monday when Russia ordered Gazprom to cut deliveries of gas to Europe via Ukraine by a sixth, the same amount Moscow accuses Kiev of siphoning off.

DALLAS - There might have been snow falling outside instead of May flowers blooming, but it never seems to matter for the Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs. The frosty weather couldn't cool off this fiery rivalry. It looked, felt and smelled like the playoffs. On a night with off-the-charts intensity and entertainment value, the Mavericks came up a few plays short as the Spurs got out of town with a 133-126 double-overtime win at American Airlines Center that offset the Mavericks' victory in San Antonio last month.

The Sports Car Club of America Board of Directors have selected SCCA Vice President of Finance and Administration Jeff Dahnert as the Club's next President and Chief Executive Officer. Dahnert will transition to the position Jan. 1, 2009. Dahnert arrived at SCCA in November of 2004. Since then he has brought transparency and accountability to SCCA's finances, substantially reduced loan amounts and helped bring SCCA Pro Racing back into the black. Evaluating each program and contract to the last detail and pushing for major restructuring, Dahnert has successfully turned around SCCA's finances and given the Club a bright future.

Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, were arrested Tuesday by FBI agents for what U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald called a "staggering" level of corruption involving pay-to-play politics in Illinois' top office. Blagojevich is accused of a wide-ranging criminal conspiracy, including alleged attempts by the governor to try to sell or trade the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama in exchange for financial benefits for the governor and his wife. Blagojevich also is accused of obtaining campaign contributions in exchange for other official actions.
